Overview

The Princeton University Library seeks an energetic and experienced individual for a Supervisor position to manage and coordinate all activities in the daily operation of the Physical Collections Receipt and Processing unit.  The successful candidate will supervise a team of staff members who’s responsibility it is to ensure that incoming library materials acquired by the university are properly received, recorded, processed, tracked and routed as appropriate to other library units for further processing in the most efficient and cost effective way.  This includes end to end processing of shelf ready library materials processing of library materials going to commercial bindery and rigorously monitoring quality control on all workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise approximately 7 staff members including responsibility for hiring, training, monitoring and evaluating their daily work performance; provide training, mentoring, and feedback as needed.
  • Analyze and adjust workflows, daily operational procedures and task assignments, developing the staff to accommodate changes that affects the flow of incoming library materials.
  • Closely monitor quality of staff work and ensuring performance and quality control expectations are met.
  • Develop the necessary work rules and procedures to affect all of the above.
  • Provide leadership, guidance and advice to staff as a resource person on shelf-ready cataloging, binding and other detailed processes.
  • Responsible for resolving complex problems generated by the staff in the unit.
  • Actively participate in all phases of work as appropriate.  

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum 3 years work experience in a library or related field.
  • At least 2 years of relevant and recent supervisory experience in a large academic library setting or in an organization of same scale and complexity. Proven successful experience with hiring, training and supervising staff in a high-demand, complex workflow environment.
  • Demonstrated evidence of excellent interpersonal, analytical, organizational and oral and written communications skills, including ability to actively listen, understand and articulate needs.
  • Work experience using an integrated library system or equivalent.
  • Ability to balance priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong commitment to enhancing service through teamwork and using technology to advance goals.

 Preferred:

  • MLS
  • Demonstrated successful experience working with cataloging/acquisitions/inventory management in an academic research library (e.g. experience with shelf ready materials or copy cataloging).
  • Successful experience working with vendors and various library service providers (e.g. binders, material suppliers).
  • Demonstrated ability to assess, develop and implement new workflow efficiencies.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the mission and functions of a large research library.
  • Experience working successfully in a complex organizational structure.
