The Associate Dean for Academic Advising reports to the Senior Associate Dean, who oversees academic advising, academic standing, and the residential college program. The Associate Dean will support all aspects of this portfolio and take the lead in designing, managing, and evaluating a broad array of advising programs intended to support undergraduates throughout their Princeton career, from matriculation through graduation. This work is centered in the residential college program, but depends on effective collaboration across programmatic, department, and unit boundaries.

The Associate Dean oversees academic advising based in the residential colleges, coordinating the work of the directors of studies to create innovative faculty and peer advising programs and to develop best practices that encourage all undergraduates to access resources that support their academic success. This work will require close collaboration with many campus partners, including Programs for Access and Inclusion, the Princeton Writing Program, Athletics Advising, the Center for Career Development, and the McGraw Center for Teaching and Learning, as well as the Office of the Registrar and academic departments. The Associate Dean will also coordinate academic prizes and fellowships awarded through the residential colleges, including the Shapiro and Dale awards.
The Associate Dean will be responsible for recruiting faculty academic advisers, creating inclusive advising training for faculty and student leadership, and for evaluating these programs. In close collaboration with the Senior Associate Dean, the Associate Dean will also provide guidance to academic department Directors of Undergraduate Studies and will develop innovative support structures for independent work advising.
The Associate Dean will develop models for yearly assessment of advising programs and will be expected to produce an annual report.
The Associate Dean will review, revise, and enhance all publications related to academic advising, all electronic advising systems tools, and all communications to incoming students and families regarding academic orientation, including the Path to Princeton portal. The Associate Dean will also coordinate the academic aspects of first-year orientation.
As needed, the Associate Dean will take on special projects and staff ad hoc committees.
