Overview

The Manager, Data Integration and Design is an engaged, insightful, team-leader with a proven track record in data acquisition, integration, and processing.  The role provides oversight for the daily activities of team of ETL developers and assists in technical tasks, including modeling, script development, and troubleshooting.   

 

The position is responsible for planning and delivery of end-to-end data warehouse services, providing technical expertise and feedback to OIT peers and business partners.  Additionally, the manager will provide visionary leadership that tactfully evaluates the current methods and architecture looking for opportunities for improvement.  The manager scopes, estimates, and coordinates assigned projects, ensuring dependable execution with precision 

 

Under the leadership of the Senior Manager, Development & Operationsthe manager is responsible for building and maintaining an outstanding team of professionals, ensuring staff have access to the tools and training for continued professional development.  The manager must understand the OIT organization and possess broad knowledge of the University mission and organization. The manager is customer focused and service oriented. 

Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Oversees the daily operations of the group and provides leadership in the development of an effective plan for data integration architecture 
  • Establishes project priorities, determines staffing models, advocates for and manages necessary resources, negotiates deliverables, monitors progress, resolves problems, and communicates with stakeholders 
  • Working with the CeDAR managers, is responsible for identification, review, and management of appropriate software, technology providers, vendors, and consultants 
  • Assigns technical work to staff, supervises schedules, and performs quality checks to ensure work meets best practice standards 
  • Triages, delegates, and escalates issues impacting the operations of the University’s Information Data Warehouse and associated tools and processes 
  • Stays abreast of developments in the data warehousing and business intelligence communities as well as trends in higher education

Technical Implementation

  • Participate in troubleshooting and diagnostics of ETL pipeline failures, data anomalies, and issue resolution 
  • Construct data flows using modeling and ETL tools 
  • Manage project life cycle including gathering specifications, creating project plans, and facilitating iterative development practices 
  • Lead and participate in proofs-of-concept in order to validate technology use cases and functionality 
  • Create and leverage tools for monitoring and improving pipeline performance

Customer Relations

  • Oversees business partnerships including evaluation of needs and recommendation of solutions, quality assurance, soliciting feedback, and technology training functions 
  • Communicates the group's mission and strategy with University stakeholders 
  • Ensures high degree of confidence in work product and services among internal business partners 
  • Monitors request queue ensuring adequate response times and is responsible for negotiating and meeting defined timelines.

Staff Development

  • Responsible for hiring, developing, and monitoring the performance of staff with an emphasis on professional development 
  • Promotes knowledge sharing and facilitates staff productivity through the effective use of technology and information management solutions 
  • Support and enable cross-functional training among staff members to encourage learning and development and ensure business continuity

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • 5 years of demonstrated experience in the day-to-day management of information systems in a complex organizational setting 
  • 3 years demonstrated experience using industry standard ETL tools (DataStage preferred) 
  • Working knowledge of cloud technologies used for data integration (e.g., Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, IBM Cloud/CloudPak for Data, etc.) 
  • Experience constructing dimensional and relational data models leveraging tools like ERWin or ER Studio 
  • Familiarity with modern data architectures, including data lake, data lake house, and object storage 
  • Broad technical knowledge and expertise in data warehousing, Business Intelligence tools (Cognos a plus), complex relational databases (Oracle and PL/SQL a plus), and information systems security 
  • Ability to profile data and perform data quality assurance tasks 
  • Experience consuming data from varied sources, including databases, queues, APIs, flat files, and IoT devices 
  • Ability to lead a team of highly competent professionals with varying backgrounds and responsibilities. Must be a strong mentor and developer of people 
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple complex initiatives and projects serving various customers with available resources 
  • Ability to respond quickly to changing business needs and priorities 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and a track record in developing innovative solutions 
  • Excellent written/oral/interpersonal communication skills, both with regard to technical and non-technical audiences 
  • Ability to conceive and create high-quality, meaningful, and timely reports & presentations appropriate to various audiences in support of planning and decision making 
  • Commitment to outstanding customer service 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in Higher Education with faculty, staff and students 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of IBM tools including (DataStage, CloudPak for Data, Cognos)
