The Research Collections & Preservation Consortium (RECAP) is seeking an energetic and experienced Supervisor to oversee staff, maintain consistent and reliable workflows, expedite cross-partner borrowing via the Shared Collection Service, and help oversee a large library storage facility.

ReCAP is a partnership of Princeton University, Columbia University, Harvard University, and The New York Public Library. The ReCAP facility encompasses eight shelving modules, a cold storage film vault, and a 25,000 square foot processing center. The facility resides on the Forrestal Campus of Princeton University in Plainsboro, NJ, and its current holdings of over 17 million items makes it the largest preservation repository in North America under one roof. ReCAP fulfills over 200,000 physical and electronic library requests per year for, and on behalf of, its partners.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the ReCAP Operations Manager, the Supervisor provides direct functional supervision to sixteen or more processing assistants, whose duties include accessioning of new materials to the facility, fulfilling electronic and item delivery requests of ReCAP materials, processing returns, and other services.

The Supervisor also reports issues with database and request systems, monitors usage and maintenance of automated lifts and production equipment, and relates facility and building problems. The Supervisor assists the ReCAP Operations Manager and Executive Director with general oversight of the facility and its activities. This position will coordinate with the Operations Manager in the areas of hiring, promoting, training, performance management, and performance evaluations, and works to ensure efficient and accurate processing of materials and implementation of new services and work routines.
