Overview

Princeton University’s Department of Facilities, Office of Capital Projects (OCP), seeks an Interior Design Project Manager to join a dynamic team of professional project managers. This role is a member of a robust design and project management team who collaborate with the Office of the Vice Provost for Space Programming and Planning, the University Architect, Academic Department Managers, University Services, Capital Project Program and Project Managers, and with colleagues from other Facilities departments.

 

The Interior Design Project Manager is instrumental in successfully executing multiple projects within his or her portfolio simultaneously and quickly. He or she will be responsible for projects from the selection of furniture for a faculty office to being part of a team for larger capital projects, including Capital Plan 2 projects. The portfolio of work includes a wide range of project types, up to 40-50 small to medium size projects annually with an estimated spend of $ 2,500,000 - $4,000,000. The portfolio of work also includes being part of several larger project teams for two to three large capital projects with an estimated furnishing spend of $1,000,000 - $8,000,000 for each project. The emphasis will be on academic spaces, administrative office spaces and residential living housing and student centers.

Responsibilities

The Interior Design Project Manager represents the University’s interests throughout the design, selection and procurement and implementation process and is responsible for the coordination of the University’s efforts and the communication plan for the project, including users, leadership, stakeholders, and external consultants and contractors.

 

The Interior Project Manager must have a minimum of 7 years of strong interior design experience, preferably in higher education, where he or she was involved in all phases of the interior design process, and can demonstrate creative involvement with strong project and organizational management skills.

-    Develop designs utilizing University FF+E (furnishings, finishes + equipment) Design Standards

-    Risk Management

-    Project Scheduling and Budgeting

-    Sourcing, bid and procuring FF+E.

-    Client Relations and Communication

-    Project Meetings

-    Project Installations

-    Project Punch and Close Out

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design or Architecture from an accredited higher education institution.
  • Minimum of seven years of interior design experience, including project management, in the Interior Architecture/Interior Design Industry. 
  • Strong project management skills including defining scope, preparing and managing project budgets and bringing projects in on schedule. Able to lead and successfully work within a cross functional team.
  • Creative, self-motivated designer with significant technical ability.
  • Strong knowledge of materials and specifications, furniture sourcing and vendor resources.
  • Basic knowledge of sustainability, ADA and LEED guidelines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills, specifically with senior management, clients, consultants and contractors.
  • Ability to self-prioritize work and operate within a highly charged dynamic work environment.
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or Revit and all Adobe programs, Blue Beam, Sketch-Up, In-Design and MS Applications (Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint) and willingness to learn new technology.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in Higher Education interior design experience, studio and/or in-house
  • Licenses and Professional Accreditation (LEED AP, PMP, NCIDQ)
  • CPM certification
  • Experience in Revit
