Overview

The Department of Astrophysical Sciences seeks to hire a part-time computing support professional to meet the challenges of supporting Department personnel in four independent locations. This position will provide computing and IT support under the direction of the departmental IT Administrator primarily for the Space Physics and Rubin Observatory Groups located at 171 Broadmead. The position will provide supporting coverage when the IT Administrator is on leave to the entire Astrophysics Department in coordination with the IT Manager. Support includes purchasing hardware, set up, updates, and trouble shooting.

 

Part time hours include flexibility for 3 or 4 days a week (20 hours) during normal business hours. This position is benefits eligible.

Responsibilities

  • This position will provide technical desktop support (Mac and Windows) primarily to Astrophysics personnel. Occasionally at providing additional IT support to other locations or as directed by the IT Administrator
  • Installing, upgrading and maintain hardware and software for Astrophysics personnel to ensure continuity of research and process.
  • Purchasing of hardware and software within the University and/or Sponsors guidelines to meet the requirements/specifications of the user.
  • Assisting in managing hardware inventory in line with security policies.
  • Covering IT Administrator when on leave or other absences.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of IT desktop support experience
  • Demonstrated familiarity with administrative tasks on Windows and Mac platforms.
  • Ability to follow procedures.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision to triage problems and prioritize tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills.
  • Able to use contemporary resources to solve problems
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED

Preferred:

  • Experience in a research or academic environment.
  • Familiarity with Linux (Redhat Enterprise, Linux and derivatives)
  • JAMF or Intune
