Responsibilities

Internship Description

The Summer 2025 intern will gain experience in multiple areas of Princeton’s Special Collections, such as archives, public services, preservation, and rare book cataloging. Responsibilities may include organizing and describing collections, reference and research assistance, outreach, rehousing collections, and educational programming. The student will work under the guidance of representatives from multiple units within Princeton’s Special Collections.

With a late June start date, the intern will work around 100 hours at $17.25/hour, finishing by mid August.

Special Collections is one of the premier repositories of its kind and accessible to anyone. We aspire to be active and creative partners in the interpretation of our collections by providing researchers with as much access to our materials as possible and by engaging with users to develop innovative forms of pedagogy and research. Special Collections’ holdings span five millennia and six continents, and include over 300,000 rare or significant printed works; 40,000 linear feet of textual materials, ranging from cuneiform tablets to contemporary manuscripts; a wealth of prints, drawings, photographs, maps, coins, and other visual materials; the Cotsen Children's Library; the Princeton University Archives; and the Scheide Library. See the website for more information.

Mentorship

A component of this internship includes the opportunity to be paired with a mentor. The mentor, a staff person from a PACSCL member institution, will be available for regular meetings and will act as a source of support and guidance during the internship.
