Overview

The Niehaus Center for Globalization and Governance in the School of Public and International Affairs invites applications for the position of Senior Research Specialist. Reporting to the Director of the Niehaus Center, the Research Specialist will work with faculty members, visiting fellows, and graduate students associated with the Niehaus Center to provide statistical and technical support for their research projects. The position requires one to work closely with associates of the Center to provide timely and creative support for research and computing. The successful candidate will create analytic datasets and perform complex statistical analyses of data, using advanced econometric and other statistical methods. The ability to write computer programs to manipulate information, devise programs for estimating econometric models, and create and manage an active internet site are important aspects of this position. In addition, the successful candidate should be able to write summaries of research, and perform literature searches and reviews.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Princeton faculty, graduate students, undergraduates and NCGG fellows in finding, cleaning, organizing and analyzing data. This will often entail managing large datasets, and requiring high level statistical and econometrics skills to assist NCGG personnel. In addition, this position requires the ability to work with large language models (LLMs), AI systems, and text analysis; to write computer programs to manipulate information, devise programs for estimating econometric models; and to write summaries of research, and perform literature searches and reviews.
  • The position will also provide support to the Assistant Director of NCGG. The person is responsible for maintaining NCGG's world economic and political database. This database contains hundreds of variables for all countries in the world over a long period of time. It must be maintained and updated. The person also assists in maintaining the NCGG website and producing any reports or queries or surveys that are needed by NCGG personnel. This requires some HTML and python and database management skills.

 

 

Qualifications

ESSENTIAL Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities

 

• Master's in Political Science, International Relations, Economics, Data Analytics, or related fields.
• 3+ years of related experience
• Excellent research and writing skills
• Proficiency in statistics and econometrics
• Strong background in quantitative, experimental research, and statistical methods.
• Knowledge of scripting or high-level programming language, like Python or Java
• Knowledge of statistical packages, including STATA, SAS, and/or R
• Knowledge of standard internet tools and HTML
• Familiarity with standard political science, economics and/or sociology data sources

The successful candidate must be well-organized, attentive to detail, and able to respond to deadlines in a timely manner. The work location for this position is in-person on campus at Princeton University.

• PhD in Political Science, International Relations, Economics, Data Analytics, and related fields.
