The per diem Nurse Practitioner (NP) provides primary care, same day/acute care to Princeton undergraduate and graduate students and their eligible dependents. This work includes obtaining history, performing physical exams, ordering and interpreting appropriate lab, x-ray, and electrocardiogram studies. The per diem NP performs minor office practice procedures such as suturing, incision & drainage.  This position is responsible for charting in an electronic medical record.  The per diem Nurse Practitioner works collaboratively with physicians, physician assistants, nurses, medical assistants, and other clinicians to provide high quality clinical, prevention, and consultative services.  The Nurse Practitioner may also perform administrative and professional duties to support the delivery of healthcare consistent with UHS policies, procedures, and professional standards. 

 

Outpatient Clinic hours are M-F 8:45am - 5:00pm, Saturdays 9:00am - 4:00pm.

Responsibilities

  • Provides outpatient care consistent with UHS policies and procedures and in accordance with NJBME regulations. This includes:
    • Taking a history and doing a physical examination
    • Ordering and interpreting laboratory tests, ordering and preliminarily interpreting imaging and other diagnostic studies
    • Referring to appropriate consultants when indicated
    • Performing minor surgical procedures such as simple suturing and incision/drainage when qualified
    • Providing timely and appropriate documentation of the above in the electronic medical record, Medicat.
    • Assessing psychosocial emotional, spiritual, environmental, biological, behavioral & cultural factors impacting upon patient.
  • May be asked to participate in outpatient care weekend coverage by rotation with Nurse Practitioners or PA staff members.
  • Performs other patient care related responsibilities such as telephone triage, consultation, and referrals to appropriate providers.
  • Maintains professional standards in the management of confidential information in a manner consistent with NJBME and professional organizations’ standards.
  • Seeks only those privileges for which they have training and competence.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications: 

  • Master's or professional degree
  • 3+ years of experience in primary and/or acute care
  • New Jersey state certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
  • New Jersey Licensure as a registered professional Nurse.
  • Completion of an Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner program, preferably MSN program.
  • CPR/AED certification.
  • Current CDS and DEA registrations
  • Minor surgical skills, including suturing, I&D
  • Ability to maintain professional standards in a manner consistent with UHS values, NJBME and professional organizations’ standards
  • Ability to maintain professional standards in the management of confidential information and treat interactions with patients as privileged communications.
  • Willingness to work in collaboration with consulting physicians.
  • Flexibility and dependability.
  • Excellent computer skills, ability to learn the UHS-specific program, Medicat.
  • Be knowledgeable in principles and methodologies (e.g., Plan-Do-Study-Act, Root Cause Analysis, measurement, data collection, and analysis) needed to support and lead Quality Improvement projects and activities and/or willing to attend UHS-based Quality Improvement basic training within first 6-months of hire.
  • Respects the cultures and identities of others.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Expertise/experience in managing athletic injuries.
  • Experience in the provision of sexual/reproductive health.
  • College health experience
  • Familiarity with total work systems (such as the Institute for Healthcare Improvement, Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, and Baldrige National Quality Program); and reviewing and analyzing data.
  • Training in health equity and other diversity and inclusion topics.
