This position is responsible for the management of all loading dock functions. Unloading and distribution of incoming freight, including equipment, to laboratories and offices. They support the department by moving furniture, setting up tables, chairs, etc. for departmental events. The Attendant performs other duties as needed.
In addition to the above this position assists in the development of the building Asset Management program and its annual inventory.
This attendant will also assist in monitoring and ordering special and routine compressed gasses, handle with details any hazardous shipping (special training), perishable materials, sensitive research materials, and be the primary point of contact for vendors and internal customers. They will also coordinate with campus management and security for all access and delivery issues and in the case of emergencies.
This attendant backs up the Building Manager as needed.
This position is a member of the Operations Team, whose mission is to support the scholarship and research of the department by maintaining a high level of customer service. This position will have interactions with all members of the department and others across the University community.
Responsible for managing and unloading of all incoming and outgoing freight, gases, deliveries to laboratories, and furniture moves. The freight is sorted and distributed to the end users such as Lab Animal Resources, Building Operations, laboratories and administrative offices.
Maintain supplies for the building, administrative offices and laboratories as needed.
Sort and deliver incoming mail from USPS and other carriers and distribute to recipients' mailboxes or offices.
Place orders for special and routine compressed gasses, dry ice, etc. and monitor stock consistently. Order other supplies for the loading dock as needed.
Perform related duties as required. This may include moving/setting up furniture for events.
May drive departmental vehicle as required.
Assist in the management of the building's capital asset program; maintain inventory of departmentally owned equipment, assess status and makes suggestions for replacement, direct disposal/surplus, locating and labeling capital equipment as it arrives, changing locations in the database when it is moved, etc.
Manage all logistical delivery access such as campus security perimeter entry clearance, card access, and visitor access requests as required.
Essential Formal Education (minimal level required for this position): High School Diploma or GED.
Essential Work Experience (minimum experience required for this position): 3+ years.

Essential Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities:
Physical strength; sufficient to lift and move freight and gas cylinders
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
Ability to learn basic computing software inventory program
Some competency with basic computing (emails, etc.)
Ability to maintain the highest level of customer service
Must exhibit excellent interpersonal skills and work well in group situations
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, Experience, and Other Education:
Previous loading dock/mailroom experience.
Basic understanding of categories of products/equipment used in laboratories.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to use Peoplesoft Asset Management program.
