Overview

The HR Client Services Specialist will have a primary focus on academic departments. This position will assist with delivering HR solutions in several key areas to enhance the performance and professional development of employees, including employee relations, performance management, training and development, and conflict resolution. As a member of a cross-functional Client Services team, this role will partner with other members of HR, and work collaboratively with all levels of management to implement HR policies, practices, and procedures, and administer HR transactions as appropriate. Working with HR Managers and the Director, Client Services for Academic Administration, the HR specialist will provide support to acclimate the Academic units to HR policies and procedures, and provide ongoing support

Responsibilities

Client Support
• Collaborate with the Academic POD to provide advice, guidance, and decisions on HR matters to managers and staff. Identify and analyze employee relations situations and recommend appropriate employment action to maintain a productive work environment.
• Conduct timely and thorough reviews with general supervision, recommend solutions to issues, and counsel employees.
• Advise managers on progressive discipline process, highlighting the legal requirements and ramifications.
• Facilitate dispute resolution within client groups as necessary to ensure the consistent, uniform, and fair application of University policies and procedures.
• Manage disciplinary actions within client groups to ensure the consistent, uniform, and fair application of University policies and procedures; adjudicate complex ER issues

 

Policies and Procedures Guidance
• Manage risk by ensuring employment actions are in compliance with local, state, and federal employment requirements.
• Stays current on recent federal, state, and case law changes and monitors labor law updates and newsletters for changes that may affect HR.
• Conduct training for clients on general human resource topics
• Provide support to supervisors and hiring PIs on policies and procedures for hiring, onboarding, reclassifying, and offboarding positions
• Provide guidance to transitioning PS employees on HR-specific processes
• Supports the development and strategic implementation of policies, procedures, and tools to support performance management, communication, and relationship building while fostering positive relationships between employees and managers

 

Administrative Support
• Administer a wide range of transaction processes/procedures to ensure proper processing of various HR transactions.
• Create and maintain reports that assist with establishing the ACA POD HR Metrics.
• Assist with the transitioning of Professional Specialist employees from ODoF to HR
• Support and partner with , Academic POD to establish regular communications, meetings and professional development engagements for academic clientele.

 

Other projects as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience

3+ years of related HR experience required

• Demonstrated strong verbal and written communication skills
• Working knowledge of all HR functions, laws and practices, Demonstrated ability to use technology (i.e. MS Office, HRIS systems) to gather, organize, and present data.
• Must possess sound judgment and critical thinking skills; strong organizational skills; self-motivated
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and administer broad range of tasks.
• Ability to adapt quickly in a varied work environment, be sensitive to diverse cultural differences, build relationships, and work successfully at all levels of a complex organization
