Under the direction of the Department of Physics leadership staff, the Senior Machinist will operate a variety of stationary tools to produce one-of-a-kind prototype and beta components for research apparatus. These components will be in service both on the Princeton campus and at remote locations.
Machine Tool Operation – Utilize typical stationary shop tools to cut/form/finish desired parts; perform measurements and inspection of machined parts
Fabrication Tool Operation– Run a variety of saws, presses, shears and sheet metal brakes
Interpret Drawings and Sketches - Apply written guidance and verbal interactions with client in the production of prototypes

The following tasks and skills that would be necessary for any person to fulfill while working in the positions listed above:
•stand or walk 2-4 hours at one time for 6 - 8 hours per day;
•sit for 0 – 2 hours at one time for up to 2 hours per day;
•operate a motor vehicle for 0 - 2 hours per day, and occasionally operates a forklift;
•lift or carry up to 60 pounds occasionally (up to 33% of the work day);
•push or pull using forces up to 60 pounds occasionally (up to 33% of the work day);
•repetitively use hands for simple grasping, pushing, or pulling and use of feet for operating footcontrols on machinery, forklift, or automobiles;
•bend, squat, kneel, crawl, reach overhead, lift overhead, lie down, knee stand, push or pull, orclimb stairs or ladders occasionally (up to 33% of the work day);
•lift up to 60 pounds in a range of motions from floor to overhead;
•work a variety of workplaces including machine shop, warehouse, office, and laboratories;
•possess full range of body motions and physical agility.
The employee occasionally retrieve stock from the metal stock room. This occurs at least once per week. In those events, the employee would:
•lift or carry metal stock weighting between 25 – 100 pounds occasionally (up to 33% of theworkday);
•push or pull with forces ranging from 50 – 100 pounds occasionally (up to 33% of the workday);
•repetitively use hands for simple grasping, pushing, or pulling and use of feet for operating footcontrols on machinery;
•bend, squat, kneel, crawl, lie down, knee stand, reach overhead, lift overhead, push or pull, orclimb stairs or ladders occasionally (up to 33% of the work day);
•lift up to 100 pounds in a range of motions from floor to waist height;
•lift up to 50 pounds in a range of motions from floor to overhead.
