Overview

The Princeton University Art Museum welcomes applications for the position of a Research Assistant in the department of Prints and Drawings. Under the direction of the curator, the Research Assistant will work on ongoing cataloguing of the collections, including provenance research, and assist on upcoming exhibitions, acquisitions, and other projects. Additionally, the assistant will help the supervising curator with teaching needs.

 

This position is temporary.

Responsibilities

The Research Assistant will work with the Assistant Curator of Prints and Drawings on various projects related to ongoing departmental needs, including collections cataloguing, research, acquisition reports, provenance, labels, rotations, data entry, etc.; as well as helping prepare for teaching, i.e. scanning readings, managing a Canvas site, etc.; and with preparation for a 2027 exhibition on Inuit printmaking and an associated publication, including organizing and collating object and artist information.

Qualifications

Essential Requirements

  • PhD or current graduate student in Art History (or a related field)
  • Proficiency in a European language relevant to the collections, or in Inuktitut
  • Strong research, writing, and organizational skills

Preferred Requirements

  • Knowledge of prints and drawings
  • Experience with TMS and Canvas
  • Experience in a museum, auction house, or galler
  • Experience with provenance research
  • While there is a possibility that the position could be done remotely, the ability to work on site in Princeton is strongly preferred
