Overview

Princeton University’s Office of Information Technology is seeking a website developer to work within its Web Development Services (WDS) group. WDS provides comprehensive design, development, and technical support services across multiple platforms for Princeton University websites. WDS is highly collaborative, with close working relationships between developers, designers, managers, and service stakeholders.

 

The web developer is responsible for assisting the WDS team and its campus customers with the migration of University websites from the Roxen content management system to the University’s enterprise Drupal content management system. 

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate the website collection served through Princeton’s instance of the Roxen Content Management System (CMS) and determine the optimal strategy for migrating these sites to the Princeton Drupal environment
  • Migrate site content from Roxen to Drupal and develop code and practices to automate parts of the migration process
  • Collaborate with customers on their website migration project to ensure the resulting Drupal site meets their needs and expectations
  • Work with a team of project managers, designers, developers and content strategists to complete website work on time and at a high standard of quality
  • Partner with web designers for Drupal website and interface design
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and provide customer support and documentation for websites built in the University's content management systems (Drupal, Roxen and WordPress)
  • Research evolving web technology, tools and approaches and actively exchange knowledge and expertise with colleagues
  • Use organizational project management methodologies and technologies
  • Continually learn technologies and techniques that support evolving needs
  • Maintain positive working relationships with and provide service to individuals with diverse technical aptitude

 

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 years of web development experience
  • Expert knowledge of PHP and object oriented design principles
  • Extensive experience with HTML, CSS and JavaScript
  • Extensive experience with Drupal 7 CMS
  • Experience migrating websites to Drupal
  • Experience with XML and XSL
  • Some experience with WordPress
  • Ability to translate images, layouts and design blueprints into CSS/HTML themes
  • Experience with web services technologies; such as REST, SOAP, WSDL, Ajax and JSON
  • Solid understanding of W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
  • Ability to work across development languages and platforms
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong mix of time management, programming, and business analysis skills
  • Demonstrated strength in identifying system solutions for evolving business requirements
  • Ability to think strategically about integrating solutions into content management systems
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment that requires managing multiple concurrent projects, while maintaining extreme attention to detail on each project
  • Enthusiasm for learning emerging technologies and applications and integrating them into projects

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Basic system administration skills
  • Comfortable using the command line in a Unix environment
  • Professional experience in higher education
  • Customer service experience
  • Mobile and responsive development skills
  • Experience with Roxen CMS

Education: Bachelor's Degree or equivalent related experience

 

Specific Technologies: PHP, XML, XSL, (X)HTML, JavaScript, JQuery, CSS, Git, REST, SOAP, WSDL, Ajax, JSON. MySQL, Roxen CMS, Drupal CMS, WordPress.
