Overview

The Department of Sociology is seeking an Administrative Assistant. This position will assist in teaching and research responsibilities, especially as they pertain to the Eviction Lab, a new initiative focused on building data capacity to understand the prevalence, causes, and consequences of residential security in America. The position supports by coordinating meetings and calendar management, collecting and disseminating information, preparing and proofreading reports and papers, arranging travel, maintaining records, managing grants and budgets, and completing special projects as assigned.  Candidates must submit cover letter along with resumes. 

Responsibilities

  • Manage calendar, monitor & maintain mail and files, make travel arrangements, assist with reimbursements.
  • Monitor deadlines for various requirements as it relates to the department and university, research projects, and grant deadlines.
  • Help write and proofread grant proposals, reports, academic papers, and other research products.
  • Conduct library research on issues pertaining to different teaching and research tasks.
  • Perform basic research tasks involving looking up, sourcing, and critically evaluating different data sources and scholarship.
  • Arrange weekly meetings with lab members, as well as non-regular meetings with students, journalists, researchers, and others; prepare agendas.
  • Monitor and coordinate research tasks of lab members; record and distribute meeting minutes.
  • Manage the social media presence of the Eviction Lab, namely through Twitter and Facebook; update and monitor the Eviction Lab website regarding information on new research and lab members; monitor and publicize media coverage and research studies that draw on Eviction Lab data.
  • Manage grant budgets, Eviction Lab research staff payroll, and matters related to grant compliance and reporting.

 

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a field that demanded critical thinking and clear writing.
  • 1 year experience working well in a team-based work- or research- environment.
  • Excellent judgment and organizational skills, with attention to details, accuracy and follow-ups in meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent writing skills, including sharp proofreading abilities, fast typing ability, and competence in summarizing information through crafting clear sentences.
  • Superb interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills dealing with a wide range of constituents including students, faculty members, journalists, program officers at foundations, alumni, and visitors
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously in a fast paced environment.
  • Demonstrate the highest level of professionalism in welcoming and assisting all constituents.
  • Proactive and exceptional problem-solving skills
  • A great team player

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with PeopleSoft, Concur
