Overview

The Industrial Relations Section (IRS) at Princeton University is seeking a Research Manager to coordinate the IRS research activities. The IRS, established in 1922, is a research and instructional center within the Princeton Economics Department that houses faculty, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and visiting researchers who are carrying out research in labor economics and public policy and related areas.

 

This individual will be responsible for supervising four or more research assistants (both full time and students) and will coordinate and manage research studies within IRS.  This is a three-year term position with the possibility of renewal. Candidates are asked to submit a cover letter, resume and contact information for three references for consideration. 

Responsibilities

  • Recruit, mentor, and supervise four or more full-time research assistants; oversee graduate/undergraduate-level research assistants working sporadically during the academic year and summer.
  • Coordinate data acquisitions from various public and private organizations; manage memorandums of understanding and nondisclosure agreements.
  • Work with the faculty, researchers, postdocs, and graduate students to ensure data protocols and University policies are adhered to.
  • If necessary submit agreements to the Office of Research and Project Administration (ORPA) through an online system for approval; work with ORPA representative to answer questions regarding the agreements.
  • Oversee three or more secure data rooms in coordination with IT at Princeton University.
  • Manage research studies including subject interaction, implementation of study design and controls, and on-and-off-site trouble shooting.
  • Ensure compliance with human subjects’ regulations and submit requests for IRB approval through an online system as needed. 

 

Qualifications

Essential: 

  • Master's degree in public policy or economics, with three or more years of work experience.
  • Knowledge of quantitative research methods in economics /social sciences. 
  • Strong analytical, management, leadership, communications, writing, and presentation skills.

 Preferred: 

  • Ph.D. in public policy or economics.
  • Experience with organizational operations duties, including hiring, budgeting, and data management.
  • Experience working with statistical programs such as STATA and R.
