Overview

 

Princeton University’s Office of Information Technology is seeking a web developer to work within its Web Development Services (WDS) group. WDS provides comprehensive design, development, and technical support services across multiple platforms for Princeton University websites. WDS is highly collaborative, with close working relationships between developers, designers, managers, and service stakeholders.

 

The web developer is responsible for developing bug fixes and enhancements to the University’s enterprise content management system (Drupal) and assisting the WDS team and its campus customers with the migration of University websites.

 

Responsibilities

  • Migrate current site content to Drupal and develop code and practices to automate parts of the migration process
  • Work with a team of project managers, designers, developers and content strategists to complete customer website work on time and at a high standard of quality
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and provide customer support and documentation for websites built in the University's content management systems (primarily Drupal)
  • Perform code reviews for other developers
  • Continually research and learn evolving web technology, tools and approaches that support evolving needs, actively exchanging knowledge and expertise with colleagues
  • Maintain positive working relationships with and provide service to colleagues and customers with diverse technical aptitudes

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 3 years of web development experience
  • Knowledge of PHP and object-oriented design principles
  • Experience troubleshooting with code debuggers, such as Xdebug and Kint
  • Extensive experience with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
  • Experience with Drupal 7
  • Comfortable using the command line in a Unix environment
  • Experience with Git or comparable version control system
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, while maintaining attention to detail
  • Ability to work successfully in a collaborative environment
  • Enthusiasm for learning emerging technologies and integrating them into projects

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

  • Experience with Drupal 8
  • Experience migrating content to Drupal
  • Professional experience in higher education
  • Experience with XML and XSL
  • Understanding of W3C Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
  • Experience with web services technologies, such as REST, SOAP, WSDL, Ajax, and JSON

 

Education:

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent related experience
