Princeton University’s Center for Statistics and Machine Learning (CSML) is an interdisciplinary center for education and research activities in statistics, machine learning, and the data sciences. The Assistant Director works closely with the faculty Director to execute policy and strategic direction for the operation of the Center and participate in short and long-term planning for Center operations and activities. While the Director establishes the academic and intellectual direction of CSML, the Assistant Director provides leadership for implementation of the Director’s vision. The Assistant Director ensures the smooth and effective administrative operations of the Center.
The Assistant Director reports to the Director, with a secondary reporting relationship to the Assistant Provost for Academic Management in the Office of the Provost.
The Center for Statistics and Machine Learning seeks a professional experienced in the research environment who is diplomatic, can build consensus and utilize discretion. The Assistant Director should have a track record of creating an environment that encourages others to succeed, possess broad management competencies (e.g., budgetary and financial, supervisory, administrative) and excel in a dynamic environment. The Assistant Director must be able to represent the Center and the Director, serving as a liaison internally and externally.
Other important aspects of the Assistant Director’s responsibilities are staff supervision, overseeing communications efforts, financial management, academic management, and facilities management. The Assistant Director ensures that all internal deadlines are met and that the Center is compliant with all internal guidelines and external regulations.
The successful candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
The position requires a bachelor's degree and 5-7 years’ experience in an administrative position that includes supervisory experience.
