The Princeton University campus consists of approximately 11 million gross square feet of space comprised of residential, administrative, athletic, library, dining, classroom, and research space. The Building Services department has a presence across campus, providing custodial services to approximately 200 buildings. There are nearly 290 employees, most of whom are union. In addition to the large-scale custodial operation, Building Services supports several thousand events each year with equipment delivery, setup, and breakdown. The department also manages a 60,000 square foot storage facility and the University Surplus Program. The department is responsible for the removal of approximately 5,000 tons of the University waste stream per year and is involved in the efforts to reduce waste volume.
Reporting to the Director of Building Services, the Assistant Director provides leadership, planning, and organizational management to the department, and high-level customer service to the campus community. The Assistant Director, who acts as the face of the department in the absence of the Director, has five major areas of responsibility: (1) Custodial Operations; (2) Project Management and Event Support; (3) Personnel Functions (4) Technology Development and Leadership (5) Budget Management.
