Princeton University seeks a highly motivated, collaborative, and strategic leader with strong operations management and leadership experience to serve as its new Assistant Vice President for Campus Services (AVP) within University Services. Princeton’s University Services provides an integrated suite of services supporting faculty, staff, students, alumni, and other campus visitors. University Services, one of five divisions reporting to the Executive Vice President, executes critical administrative functions that include services ranging from mail delivery and parking, to housing and dining, managing multi-use classroom and administrative buildings, and space scheduling. The organization employs over 400 staff with a revenue budget of approximately $109 million and $59 million in expenditures. The mission of University Services is to provide centralized services that support the unique needs of the campus’ living, learning, teaching, and research communities, and is guided by the University’s Strategic Framework and Campus Plans, while focusing on the three principles of: service and excellence; efficiency and effectiveness; and team and people.
Campus Services touches almost every aspect of the University, with responsibility for: Conference and Event Services and University Scheduling; Campus Venue Services; Tiger Card Services; Transportation and Parking Services and Print and Mail Services. Its diverse array of offerings makes it an invaluable resource to the University, and its commitment and contributions to the campus community are extremely well regarded.
Reporting to the Vice President for University Services, the AVP for Campus Services is a highly visible role that provides leadership and direction to four highly capable direct reports and an overall team of approximately 70 FTEs and 35 contract staff. The AVP is responsible for development and oversight of an operating budget of $16.1M. The new AVP will lead the implementation of major initiatives, including a University-wide scheduling system, a state-of-the-art package delivery model, and major reimagining of campus parking and transportation programs. The AVP will also assess and oversee identification, development, and implementation of new technologies, strategies, policies and practices, and ensure that the division is optimally staffed and structured to provide the highest quality of support to the campus community’s evolving needs and expectations.
The new AVP will be a strategic leader who values transparency and demonstrates a deep commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment that excels at proactive customer service, engagement, communication, and responsiveness, and operates with an eye toward efficiency. The successful candidate will be a visionary and inspiring leader with a track record of providing strategic direction and leading change in a dynamic organization of similar scale and complexity. Ideally this individual will bring strong operations management and leadership skills and experience, and will have spent some time working in a relevant position in a higher education setting. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, including proven ability to build relationships of trust and credibility with a wide range of colleagues, and a propensity for collaboration, are essential.
