    Princeton University's Office of Information Technology (OIT) is seeking a Senior Multimedia Support Specialist to join the Instructional Support Services group. Instructional Support Services provides comprehensive support to the University in classroom, conference room technology management services, videoconferencing coordination, special events, technical assistance and endpoint and videoconferencing room management.  The group also provides tech support and audio visual/computer equipment for event-related staging for academic and administrative and public events. 


    Under the general direction of the Manager, Learning Spaces, the Senior Multimedia Support Specialist is responsible for supporting the effective practices, procedures, and policies associated with audio-visual support operations in campus learning spaces and event locations as managed by ITS and OIT.


    This position is responsible for ensuring that classroom, lab and media support work is properly scheduled and completed and providing guidance and technical consulting to faculty. In addition, this position is a technical resource for video conferencing, classroom technology, and special event support in spaces across campus.


    • Work closely with the Manager, Learning Spaces, classroom team, and Associate Director to plan and execute support needs for upcoming courses and events.
    • Provide high-level technical service to systems, installed and or live events.
    • Proactively test and resolve technical equipment issues.  Resolve all issues in a timely manner.
    • Setup audio visual equipment and ensure the operation of small to large scale audiovisual systems are in place for classroom needs and public events.
    • Provide high-level technical support for faculty using classroom technology.
    • Provide an initial diagnosis for hardware and software technical problems in the classrooms.
    • Resolve problems and/or repair of presentation technologies in the classrooms.
    • Provide short term solutions to rooms with equipment issues and eliminate any down-time for the room.
    • Ensure well executed events through accurate and timely setup, operation and breakdown of audio visual equipment.
    • Work closely with the ITS team to support courses and events across campus learning spaces
    • Liaise with other ITS staff and OIT team members as needed to troubleshoot technical items
    • Conduct training and information sessions as needed to support classroom operations
    • Proactively provide long-term solutions for ongoing technical classroom needs
    • Maintain an expert level technical understanding of computer based instructional technology, especially Crestron, Extron and E-Control client and server editions


    • 4 to 6 years of experience with standard and high definition video conference hardware and software
    • 3 years of audio-visual project management
    • In-depth knowledge of state-of-the-art and legacy audio-visual technology and the ability to keep abreast of developments in audio-visual technology
    • Extensive experience in customer service with a demonstrated ability to skillfully manage all levels of customer issues
    • Ability to successfully coordinate and manage all aspects of a sizable or high profile video conference
    • Demonstrated track record of innovative and creative thinking
    • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills and the ability to communicate with a diverse customer base who possess varying levels of technical proficiencies
    • Ability to communicate the needs of others effectively.
    • Ability to gather and analyze facts, draw conclusions, define problems, and suggest solutions.
    • Ability to conduct training and informational sessions.
    • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, to respond to shifting priorities, and to work efficiently under the pressure of deadlines;
    • Experience in outreach and partnership building; ability and desire to develop strong relationships with faculty and staff;
    • Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment
    • Excellent attention to detail
    • Excellent troubleshooting skills
    • Flexibility and willingness to work outside of standard hours
    • Must be able to lift fifty pounds.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience working with faculty and senior administrators in higher education
    • Understanding of classroom technologies and audio-visual design in teaching spaces
    • Familiarity with the University data network
    • Five or more years of experience providing academic technology support in a higher education setting.
    • Extensive knowledge of best practices in technology applications in teaching and learning and in the delivery of academic technology support services.
    • Demonstrated record of commitment to ongoing professional development on the part of self, technical staff, faculty, and other campus constituents.


    • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience
