The Evening Sculpture Shop Assistant is an 8-12 hour per week position reporting to the Sculpture Shop Supervisor. The typical schedule includes Sundays, as well as Monday and Thursday evenings. Other days of the week may also be added. The assistant supervises and assists, as needed, all undergraduate Visual Arts Program class students and Program majors working in the sculpture power shop during two to three evening open shop hours, assures that all tools and materials are used in an appropriate and safe manner, and assists in keeping the shop and related sculpture making spaces organized and running smoothly. May also be required to help supervise the use of the shop during class times under the direction of Visual Arts faculty.
Working knowledge of the operation and general maintenance of various wood shop and sculptural equipment and tools including but not limited to:
Table saw, Band saw, Belt sander, Scroll saw, Drill press, Lathe, Planer, Panel saw, Miter saw, Pneumatic tools
Knowledge of TIG and Oxy-acetylene welding helpful, but not required
General sculpture process knowledge preferred but not required
