  • Overview

    The Library seeks an energetic, detail oriented individual with a strong public service orientation to work in Firestone Circulation Services.  This position will work an evening schedule and spend a significant portion of time providing customer service at the Circulation Desk, a highly visible and busy service area in Firestone Library.

    Responsibilities

    This position provides circulation services to patrons at three very visible service areas in Firestone Library:  the Circulation Desk, Access Office, and BookFinder Desk.  Circulation Desk services include charging and discharging material, creating and updating patron records, collecting and paying fines, communicating policies and information about the Library and its resources to patrons.  This position will provide oversight and close the department several nights a week.  Access Office responsibilities include evaluating and assigning access or borrowing privileges to visitors, alumni, faculty, staff and students.  Additional tasks include processing ReCAP and Dixon material, various types of searching, and billing activities. 

    Qualifications

     

    Requirements:

    • Minimum 1 year public service experience in an academic library.
    • Demonstrated reliability and independence, as this individual will close the Department.
    • Must work well under pressure and be flexible to accommodate changes in the work schedule.
    • Demonstrated ability to work constructively with co-workers and the public, and to work quickly, accurately and with great attention to detail.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
    • Facility with email and Microsoft Office applications, along with a willingness to learn new technology.
    • Physical requirements include bending and stretching, lifting books, and moving large book trucks.

    Work Schedule: Five evenings a week.

    Academic year hours:  1:00-9:00pm Monday-Thursday; 3:45-11:45pm Friday.

    Summer hours:  2:00-10:00pm Monday-Thursday; 12:00-8:00pm Friday.

     

    Preferred:

    • Bachelor’s degree.
    • Facility with Voyager circulation and cataloging modules.
