  • Overview

    The Accommodation Coordinator serves in a position that combines responsibilities pertaining to student needs assessment and management of accommodations for students with sensory, physical and temporary impairments as well as technology management.  The Accommodation Coordinator will also support programming and technology needs for the AccessAbility Center. 

     

    This is a seven month term position with the possibility of extension for a limited time period.

    Responsibilities

    The Accommodation Coordinator will report to the Director for Disability Services for the following:

     

    Accommodation Coordination:

    • Hiring sign language interpreters, CART providers
    • Managing interpreter assignments through Sharepoint
    • Coordinating braille text and accessible electronic text for blind students
    • Working with Undergraduate and Graduate students with sensory impairments on course accessibility issues
    • Coordinating campus access for personal care attendants, sign language interpreters, CART providers and approving payment
    • Evaluate needs for special equipment requests by students, research equipment, purchase and implement
    • Hire student workers as notetakers, scribes, readers, etc.; train, monitor 
    • Interact with faculty or administrators to educate and implement accommodations

    Accommodation support tasks:

    • Manage document conversion
    • Manage clean laptop and equipment programs including evaluating equipment and monitoring loans to students
    • Monitor time and approve payroll for student workers
    • Maintain supply of assistive technology equipment
    • Educate students on the use of assistive technology

    Technology Management:

    • Manage inventory of technological devises for student accommodations, office and AccessAbility Center
    • Interact with campus support services to maintain and problem solve issues with technology
    • Maintain current working knowledge of devices and recommend technological improvements

    AccessAbility Center:

    • Support any technology needs for the Center
    • Work with Office of Disability Services staff to implement programming including disability awareness initiatives

    Qualifications

    Required: 

    • Bachelor’s Degree
    • Demonstrated experience working in a higher education disability service office working with students with sensory, physical and temporary impairments. 
    • Experience arranging and implementing accommodations for students such as hiring, managing and scheduling of sign language interpreters and CART providers.  Experience hiring and managing student workers as notetaker, scribes, readers, etc.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills in order to establish good relationships with consultants as well as positive interactions with faculty and administrators.
    • Understanding of a range of assistive technologies, including Dragon Naturally Speaking, Natural Reader Voices, Smartpen, and ability to train students on use.
    • Attention to detail.
    • Diplomacy and sensitivity when interacting with students.

     

    Preferred: 

    • Experience and understanding of document conversion process and ability to implement and troubleshoot issues with clean laptop program.
    • Understanding of Princeton programs such as the ODS PeopleSoft database and time collection are preferred.  Knowledge of general software programs including Sharepoint, Outlook, Google docs, Excel, Microsoft Word and Powerpoint are preferred.
