  • Overview

    The Computing Support Specialist (SCAD/DCS) provides direction and support to the Center for Statistics and Machine Learning (CSML 50%) and the Princeton Entrepreneurship Council (PEC 50%) with regards to their technology projects, decisions and implementation of computer-based programming and web-based offerings. This position reports to the Assistant Director in CSML and to the Executive Director in PEC.


    The DCS provides the insight and direction related to departmental online presence for both CSML and PEC. It also provides technical support for Windows and Mac OS operating systems and iPhone, Android devices also all software applications to the faculty, staff and students in CSML and PEC. The DCS leverages technology to find solutions to business needs, including but not limited to effective information management. In addition, this person is also responsible for web development, web graphics, application design and maintenance in each department. The DCS is the primary liaison to OIT for technical issues and also attends SCAD/DCS monthly meetings, trainings and other related forums organized by OIT.


    This role is the primary staff member in performing all maintenance tasks and keeping all computers, IOS devices and managing all of the technology projects for both departments. Projects are sometimes assigned by others but are often self-identified as a need or a problem related to computing capabilities, online presence, database solutions, or other technology-based needs. Others in the department and around campus are solicited for advice or input, but management, implementation and maintenance of the projects are owned by the employee.


    Project Management:Websites - construction, design, development, maintenance, and management of all processes and input in order to get websites functioning and current. Manage process of soliciting and collating input from appropriate department members in order to meet needs of websites. Maintain structure, content security, interfaces and testing of the CSML and PEC websitesSoftware - perform diligence on software options for departmental needs, including online mentor scheduling, databases for contacts, event coordination, and more.

    Forms Research, develop and manage online web forms. Monitor and adjust as analysis requires, advice and management of all additional technology projects that are identified as important.


    Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair technology related issues and questions posed by faculty, staff and students. Support of Microsoft Windows 10, Mac OS High Sierra and Linux operating systemsSupport for all office productivity applications: Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, University Business Applications, SharePoint, in-house applications and Google Apps


    Support, educate and train staff on proper computing techniques including use of office databases, online applications, web surveys, intranet, wiki, calendaring application, social media and blogs. Maintain and troubleshoot department ListServ lists and processes


    Purchase, maintain and repair department desktops and laptopsInstall and configure all new computer systems, printers, scanners, tablets, mobile devices, A/V equipment and

    other computing related devicesConfigure and maintain back-up software on all desktop computing systemsSet up links and maintain pathways from office to home computers for Secure Remote Access to desktop computers


    Other:Keep abreast of new technologies, including computer software, hardware, smart phones and peripheral devices and inventory of departmental equipment and leverage technology to find optimal solutions for business needs.Assist with AV and IT aspects of departmental renovation projects Support the use of technology/media in the classrooms and meeting rooms Primaryliaison to OIT for technical issuesAttend monthly SCAD/DCS meetings, training and participate in other related forums Innovation and Presence:Offers to participate in new university programming initiatives and in other departments' online projects, when appropriate, which allows CSML and PEC to cultivate their reputations as being collaborative, innovative and willing to take risks.




    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build good working relationships with people of diverse personalities and professional backgrounds, with a strong focus on customer service. Takes intuitive, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously. Ability to work with OIT staff resources for issues to be resolved on a timely base and well as all the software applications commonly used on campus. Knowledge of supporting Windows and Virtual Servers, Concept and understanding of network and firewall filtration, extensive knowledge of content management systems (Drupal 7-8) and Google applications.


    Must be able to lift 50 lbs, twist, bend and work in awkward positions



    Experience in Service Now desirable

    Experience in a University setting is a plus.

    Microsoft and Apple certifications are a plus
