  • Overview

    The Training and Usability Analyst will support the Academic Management Tool (AMT) system development project. The AMT project will deliver a tool or set of tools to support decision -making and planning in academic departments. The Training and Usability Analyst will provide user-centered analytical and content support to the project team.  Reporting to the project manager, the Training and Usability Analyst will collaborate with the project team to create user-facing deliverables critical to project completion. This is a one-year term position.

    This is a 12 month term position.


    Instructional Design and Development

    • Elicits training requirements using interviews, document analysis, and hands-on testing.
    • Designs and manages integrated business and system training curriculum.


    Administrative Coordination of Training and User Testing

    • Prepares background materials for project meetings and user sessions.
    • Organizes and provides administrative support for meetings and user sessions.
    • Coordinates training logistics and schedule.


    User Experience

    • Provides user-centric design insight to application screens, report layouts and navigation.
    • Designs and tests user performance support interventions including application “wizards”, error messages, context-sensitive and other help media.



    • Develops user facing content for the project website, training and application help.
    • Provides editorial review of all user-facing content, including application language.


    Essential Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent proofreading and layout skills used to compose a range of materials.
    • Understands a range of instructional design methods, and experience applying these concepts.
    • Applied understanding of usability issues.
    • Ability to work independently and in a team.
    • Problem solving and troubleshooting skills with sound judgment.
    • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and possesses the ability to organize and synthesize information.
    • Ability to extract critical details, spot trends, isolate relevant information, and make inferences.


    Preferred Qualifications

    • Prior work experience in higher education, consulting, and/or information technology.
    • Experience as an Instructional Designer
    • Experience working in a team environment that is deadline-driven.
    • Proficient in the use of financial software applications. PeopleSoft and Cognos are a plus.
    • Strong knowledge of software development cycle, particularly in an Agile environment.
    • Strong knowledge of test planning, scripting, results evaluation, and prioritization.
    • Proficient in the use of usability methodologies, techniques, and tools.
    • Working knowledge of Captivate (or similar software)
    • Working knowledge of Taleo (or similar software)
